چکیده

The fractional thermal loading in a diode-end-pumped solid-state laser is deduced from experimental measurement of the critical pump power. The results show that fractional thermal loading critically depends on the pump-to-mode size ratio. This dependence is attributed to the effect of the pump-to-mode size ratio on the population inversion and to the effect of energy-transfer upconversion. Rigorous modeling calculations have been performed to yield a comprehensive understanding of the thermal loading in diode-end-pumped solidstate lasers. © 2000 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(00)01011-0] OCIS codes: 140.3480, 140.3580, 140.6810.

Repetition-rate dependence of thermal loading in diode-end-pumped Q-switched lasers: influence of energy-transfer upconversion

The fractional thermal loading in diode-endpumped Q-switched lasers was estimated from the theory of cavity stability. The experimental results show that the thermal loading depends on the pulse-repetition rate. This dependence is attributed to the effect of energy-transfer upconversion (ETU). A theoretical model including the ETU effect was developed to analyze the fractional thermal loading i...

Diode-Pumped Solid State Lasers

III The use ofdiode lasers instead ofHashlamps as optical pump sources for solid state lasers offers significant advantages such as higher efficiency and longer lifetime. We have demonstrated three novel lasers based on this technology. The first is a zig-zag slab laser pumped by hybrid planar microchannel-cooled diode arrays that allow high-repetition-rate operation in a pulsed mode. The secon...

Diode laser--pumped solid-state lasers.

Diode laser-pumped solid-state lasers are efficient, compact, all solid-state sources of coherent optical radiation. Major advances in solid-state laser technology have historically been preceded by advances in pumping technology. The helical flash lamps used to pump early ruby lasers were superseded by the linear flash lamp and arc lamp now used to pump neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet ...

Diode-pumped mode-locked femtosecond 2-μm Tm:CaYAlO4 laser

Continuous-wave mode-locked femtosecond 2-m solid-state laser with a c-cut Tm:CaYAlO4 (6 at.%) as gain medium was experimentally demonstrated. The mode locked laser generated stable pulses with average output power as high as 531 mW, pulse duration of 496 fs, and repetition rate of 97 MHz at 1975 nm. The research results show that Tm:CaYAlO4 is an excellent gain medium for femtosecond pulse ge...

Thermal Distortions in Laser-diode– and Flash-lamp–pumped Nd:ylf Laser Rods

LLE Review, Volume 71 137 Laser-diode pumping of solid-state laser materials is proving to be much more advantageous over the more conventional technique of flash-lamp pumping. The electrical to optical efficiency of laser diodes is significantly higher than for flash lamps. In addition, the emission wavelength of laser diodes can be chosen to couple efficiently to the absorption band of the la...
